The French Cultural Center / Alliance Française of Boston and Cambridge is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2018 student and teacher awards.
Each year, the Center awards monetary prizes to its students and teachers who have demonstrated enthusiasm for the French language. The Rebecca and Jean-Paul Valette Alliance Française Prize is awarded to a student of the Center who completes two consecutive beginner group classes and plans to use the prize towards a project in a French-speaking country. The de Bragança Excellence in Teaching Award was created by Suki and Miguel de Bragança to reward a French Cultural Center teacher who distinguished him/herself by the quality of his/her work in the classroom.
REBECCA & JEAN-PAUL VALETTE ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE PRIZE
Peter Chindavong, our 2018 Valette Prize recipient, has been an active and engaged member of the Center for over a year. He has participated in a variety of Center events, from attending wine tastings to volunteering for our Bastille Day celebration. Peter will receive $2,500 towards his project, which includes volunteering at La Giraudière helping to refurbish a French auberge and education site. Peter, originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, now works at Massachusetts General Hospital in neurology and psychiatry.
Anne Reeder, who hails from the Pacific Northwest and now resides in Worcester, began studying French at the Center in January 2018. She will receive a $1000 travel grant to attend an intensive class at the AF of Lille. Anne plans to use her free time and weekends to explore and visit historical sites related to WWI. When not working as a public health nurse, Anne enjoys sewing quilts, reading mystery novels, eating good food, and planning her next adventure.
Gabriela Pearson, a student in our teen’s classes who was brave enough to take the initiative to apply on her own, will receive tuition remission. To reward her effort and motivate her to continue her study of the French language, Mrs. and Mr. Valette are providing the registration fees for Gabriela to attend our two-week immersion program for teens this summer.

Patricia Richoux, who hails from Brussels, Belgium, is an incredible teacher in our children’s program and one of the pillars of our Education Department. Both the Center and Patricia's students are grateful for her outstanding work, patience, and kindness. We are proud to honor her as an ambassador of the Center with a 2018 de Bragança Excellence in Teaching Award.
