Francophone Culture Fellow


Director of Education


The Francophone Culture Fellow assists in the creation of events and classes on French and Francophone history, traditions, and culture. Specific responsibilities include: workshops on Francophone regions and current events, the creation of cultural resources for our summer program for children and teens, and educational workshops on phonetics. In-depth knowledge of French-speaking cultures and institutions is required as well as a willingness to share this knowledge with the Greater Boston Francophone and Francophile community.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)

  • Lead literature workshops on various cultural themes highlighting Francophone history and traditions
  • Teach group classes and private lessons to kids and adults
  • Participate in the organization of summer immersion programs for kids and teens ages 3 to 17
  • Calibrate placement tests for students
  • Teach in educational institutions partnered with the French Cultural Center
  • Participate in Education Department training sessions and meetings
  • Develop pedagogical resources on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Create, organize, and teach classes based on different regions of France and the Francophone world, current events in France, cultural differences between French and Americans, and other topics as required
  • Organize and lead cultural workshops during visits to the French Cultural Center for primary, middle, and high schools in New England
  • Participate in training and examination sessions for the DELF/DALF/TEF exams
  • Be an ambassador for French and Francophone cultures in Boston, respond to questions from the Center’s members and the wider public regarding France and educational and cultural programs, help families based on their needs, and offer pedagogical or cultural resources for members, students, or the public looking to travel to France
  • Offer administrative support for the logistical needs of the Education Department
  • Collaborate with curriculum supervisors and the Director of Education on team projects for teachers at the Center


  • Be a French native speaker or at the C2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Have a Masters' degree in FLE, French (or DAEFLE) or equivalent
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Francophone cultures and their traditions
  • Have an interest and experience in teaching French and Francophone literature
  • Be dynamic, enthusiastic, conscientious, creative, and comfortable with new technologies
  • Be diplomatic and able to develop rapport with colleagues, students, and parents
  • Have a welcoming personality and be ready to contribute to team spirit and the cultural life of the Alliance
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow professionally by teaching different types of students and lead a variety of educational missions
  • Be efficient and concise in communication as well as lesson preparation
  • Be able to teach following a task-based approach that follows the competencies described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL)
  • Have obtained a Masters in teaching French as a foreign language or gone through the French Ministry of Education teacher preparation program
  • Have genuine enthusiasm for teaching and experience teaching children and/or adolescents and/or adults
  • Be able to manage a children’s class
  • Be able to lift 55 pounds


  • Valid accreditation as examiner or trainer for the DELF/DALF exams
  • Familiarity with French and American school systems
  • Familiarity with child language development theory


Full time : $40,000/year with benefits
