About this Class

Get to know the birthplace of cinema with a dynamic look at modern day French society. As the third biggest producer of films in the world, the legendary French film industry offers an oblique look at all aspects of French life and culture. In this six-week course, you will become better acquainted with the historical and social context displayed in the following three movies: Les Intouchables, Indigènes / Days of Glory (your teacher will give you access to this movie), and Les Miserables. Students will discuss racial and social questions and inequalities and get a better understanding of life in France today. Please note that these movies are rated R and contain scenes that can be shocking. Viewer discretion is advised.
