Expérience Acadie and Parks Canada
Parks Canada protects a vast network of cultural and natural heritage places across the country that include 171 national historic sites, 47 national parks, five national marine conservation areas and one national urban park. It administers one of the finest and most extensive systems of natural and cultural heritage places in the world. The network of protected areas administered by Parks Canada is a gateway to nature, history, and 450 000 km² of memories from coast to coast to coast.
Parks Canada in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, administers one national park and five national historic sites, including the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. Surrounded by Cape Breton’s rocky shoreline, this breathtaking site brings you back to French colonial life between 1713 and 1758. First the home of L’nu, also known as the Mi’kmaq, the 18th century brought French, Basque, German, English, Irish, Scottish, and African people to its shores. Today, the site and its many stories are brought to life by 18th century “residents”, fascinating exhibits, and five coastal trails. Visitors are invited to discover the many cultures that helped shape Canada and continue to thrive on Cape Breton-Unama'ki, through music, dance, language, craft and culinary traditions.
